We’ve seen Joe Biden, the former US Vice President who served under former president Barack Obama go head to head with Governor Sarah Palin and Former speaker Paul Ryan at the 2008 and 2012 VP debate. 1. Biden used to stutter as a child. He didn’t stop until he got to law school and got a friend to help him fix it.

2. When he was at Syracuse University studying as a Law student, he and his first wife Neilia bought a puppy, which they named Senator in 1967.

3. He was elected as a senator when he was 29 years old, even though you have to be 30 to be a member of Congress. No laws were broken, though. He was 30 by the time he was inducted.

4. Though he is the Presidential candidate of the Democratic party. Biden first ran for president in 1988 and again this year, 2008.

5. In 2014, he was listed as one of America’s least wealthy government officials, ranking 577 of 581.

6. Biden has never taken a drink in his life and neither smokes.

7. On December 18, 1972, a few weeks after Biden had been elected to office, his wife and year-old daughter were killed in a car accident. His two sons, Beau and Hunter, were also critically injured, though they fully recovered. He thought about quitting his job in order to care for them, but the then Senate Majority leader persuaded him not to. Biden was then sworn into office from his son’s bedside.

8. Biden remarried in 1977, after his first wife death to Jill Tracy Jacobs, an English teacher. His son Beau once joked in his speech at the Democratic National Convention that they all married her. Biden had another child named Ashley with Jill Jacobs. He is Grandfather to four grandchildren.

9. If he wins the US Presidency come November 2020. He would be the oldest US President at 78. Former US President Reagan who became elected at the age of 71 presently holds that record.

10. In 1972, at 29, he defeated incumbent Republican Senator Cale Boggs, becoming the fifth-youngest person ever elected to the U.S. Senate.

Other important facts about Joe Biden: In 2012, He infuriated then-President Obama after publicly declaring his support for gay marriage as Obama’s reelection campaign was heating up. His oldest son, Beau, died of brain cancer in 2015. He considered running for president in 2016, but Obama persuaded him not to, as he believed Hillary Clinton had a better chance to defeat the the then Republican nominee. His favorite movie is Chariots of Fire. He has a known penchant for ice cream. Biden likes to carry a rosary around. If elected President, he would become the second Catholic after John F. Kennedy to be US President.
