More support seems to be coming the way of Nigeria’s former finance minister and world bank Vice President Okonjo Iweala who is currently vying for the position of the Director General of the World Trade Organisation coming up soon as the former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown has thrown his weight behind her candidacy for the top job.
This major boost to her candidacy came as Gordon Brown was said to have stated that Okonjo-Iweala had a record of “delivering results in the toughest of jobs”.
She has been tipped as the best candidate for the job amongst other contestants as she is said to possess the required requisite , experience, pedigree and charisma for the job even as she is the only female candidate gunning for the top job.
Other African nation’s head of government have equally given their support to her with the Nigerian government constituting a campaign team for her.
The British newspaper, The Times in its report quoted the former prime minister to have stated that Okonjo-Iweala would make an outstanding success of running the Swiss-Based regulator which he said was facing an existential crisis and grappling with the global economic disruption caused by Covid-19. And also emphasised that she is “well respected across the whole world ” She is currently leading the board of GAVI, the global vaccine alliance.
