The diplomatic relationship between the Republic of China and the United States further suffered a set back as China as it orders the closure of the United States Consulate in retaliation of the US closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston, thereby deepening the diplomatic face-off between both countries.
This has been interpreted as a tit-for-tat escalation by international and diplomatic affairs analysts between both countries. The US had earlier accused China of spy activities and undermining its security and intelligence apparatus.
China stated that this latest move was in response to the United States closure of its consulate in Houston and accused staffs in Chengdu of Meddling in its internal affairs and endangering China’s security and interests and accused Mr Pompeo’s announcement on Thursday making statements filled with ideological bias and a Cold War Mentality. ‘ Pompeo made a speech in which he made a malicious attack on the Chinese Communist Party’ Mr Wang said adding ‘To this, China expresses strong indignation and resolute opposition. ‘
The closure of the consulate in Chengdu is legitimate and a necessary response to the actions taken by the US government according to the ministry of foreign affairs and stated that it is highly regrettable and definitely a situation the Chinese government does not want to see and the US bears all responsibility for that.
China has given the US until Monday to close the consulate in Chengdu according to the editor of China’s Global Times.
It would be recalled that the US had earlier ordered the closure of China’s consulate and accused of it of spy activities in the United states. ‘Today China is increasingly authoritan at home and more aggressive in its hostility to freedom everywhere else. The free world must triumph over this new tyranny ‘.
